The Chanting Portal: A feeling coursed through his body. A time of change was near. What that change would be was still a mystery in his mind. It was just a feeling he held within himself. A new sense of discovery is an incredible thing. A time of wonderment and fresh beginnings. It’s one last chance at a clean slate. The clock was ticking, and as we know, time waits for no one. The Shaman had finally entered the cave. He never looked at us or said anything. Dressed in a cloak decorated with moons, suns, and stars. A staff occupied his right hand, a drum was in the left, and a pack was hanging from his back. Topped with a wide-brimmed hat, a hat band decorated with gold suns, silver moons, and copper stars. By all looks of him, he seemed to be empowered to cast cosmic sorcery. The medicine man glanced around and then nodded to each of us. Without saying a word, the Shaman threw down a blanket and sat with his legs crossed. Out of his knapsack, the contents were emptied upon the throw. In the pile lay a bunch of wood gathered from the forest below. Carefully stacking the wood, he sparked a tinderbox to light a fire. As the flame came to life, incenses were thrown, and the fire grew higher. A warm, flickering glow filled the cave walls, revealing painted scenes of ancient Aven ceremonies. When the flames became steady, the Shaman began to chant incantations in the old speech of the Aven culture. At first, his voice was low and slow. The crack of thunder filled the cave. The Shaman stopped his chant, and all around was quiet. Reaching into his gunny sack, he pulled out more incense and threw some into the fire. The flames erupted once more. He chanted haunting intonations in a very loud, fast voice. The flame continued to grow higher. Thunder then shook the cavern, shaking some rocks from their resting place. lightning began to flash, and pouring rain started falling outside the cave opening. “What happened?” Malichi whispered. “I’m not sure,” replied Sol. Then, in a hoarse voice, the Shaman proclaimed,” It is here.” “Where?” exclaimed Malachi. The Shaman’s shaking hand points to the cave opening. Sure enough, outside, the storm had passed, and an opening in the sky had appeared before them. It was the portal. The Shaman has created the portal. Creating a bridge between both worlds. When the portal opened, it was occupied by the crackling air that sounded like a beehive buzzing. The crack of thunder. With that, the portal opened, displaying the new world. They were now released from their world and gazing at a new one. It had a feel that this was the change that had occupied his thoughts. (To be Continued)
